Cherish Nigeria Development Foundation is a registered non-profit, non-governmental organization wholly dedicated to selfless services to humanity with a focus on Northern Nigeria. Established in 2005, it has outgrown the challenges of its nascent days and is now regionally and globally acknowledged as an organization focused on community interventions with an aim to create autonomy and self-confidence among the supported communities and groups.
Formally known as Ciroma Shehu Ruma Foundation, and later Cherish Support Foundation, CNDF re-branded itself to Cherish Nigeria Development Foundation based on the feedback from consultations with stakeholders.
Thus, the ‘cherish’ was derived from Chiroma Shehu Ruma – A name chosen in honors of the Patriarch of the Ruma family who believed that community development was the cornerstone for sustainable Inclusive Development (Chiroma Shehu Ruma was foremost Islamic Scholar and Prince of the legendary Danwaire Family in Ruma, who sacrificed the fierce cut throat competition of the Ruma Rulership for Islamic scholarship and philanthropy), Chiroma Shehu Ruma believed in the notion that community development programmes must have a sustainable and realistic impact on people. CNDF, recognizes that its project must stand out clearly as replicable models with a high potential for scalability in other parts of Northern Nigeria and beyond. This was why it utilizes the SHE-MODEL in its fight against under development and inclusion.
